Flavorless Protein Powder as a Food Additive

Wondering if anybody has ever used a flavorless protein powder to supplement your food and how you updated your recipes to accommodate an additional dry ingredient? I'm having my jawbones reconstructed on Friday with potential wiring of my jaw for up to a week. I was thinking of maybe adding protein powders to soups or mashed potatoes so I don't have to survive on smoothies (it's currently -10 degrees where I live and would like some warm foods). Has anyone done this or blended up silken tofu to incorporate into foods? Did it go okay? Other meal advice?

Hi there, first of all I hope your surgery goes well and the recovery is quick! I have never used a unflavored protein powder but have used flavored kinds in cooking. I did a quick little search and from what I can tell you should not encounter any problems adding to the foods you mentioned. I use protein powder in pancakes or waffles and oatmeal all the time without problems. As long as you have enough liquid I think it should dissolve well and not effect texture and if it does just dilute it. Again, I personally have never used unflavored so I cannot really speak for how it may change the flavor. Soup would probably be the better of the two you mentioned because it would have more flavor to cover the protein powder tang if there is any lol. I make hot chocolate out of mine which is good if that is something you like.
I would say when you pick one try to get either a plant based or egg based powder they tend to mix in and handle heat better in my experience. Whey based powders just don’t do well in any kind of cooking. Also heat whatever it is your adding it to BEFORE mixing it in, it just works much better from my experience. Hope this helps!!3 -

I add unflavored whey protein to canned soup all the time. Even though it's unflavored whey has a slight milky taste, so only add it to cream based soups.0

Thanks all! I had done a search but couldn't find anything about adding to mashed potatoes but I think i'll give it a try. I figure it's better than nothing! My protein powder is a plant based one and it doesn't seem to have any significant after tastes so hopefully this goes well! I might try adding to a soup tonight just to see.0
