New Years Resolution PSA

This is directed at the regular gym goers of the group. Just a friendly PSA about the horde of people that will be flooding your gym next week:

We all know it's almost that time again. Yes, your gym is going to be overrun by people who made a new year's resolution to lose weight or get fit. We'll all complain, we'll joke, we'll get annoyed at times, but let's consider a few things:

1. Most of these people will be gone by February. It's sad but true, you know it, I know it. Wait a month and this problem will literally take care of itself.

2. These people keep your gym costs down! People who sign a year contract for a gym and then only use it for a month keep your gym membership fees in check. The gym makes a ton of money off of people who don't routinely use their memberships because these individuals don't contribute to the overall wear and tear of the gym. If these people didn't consistently buy a gym membership that they never use, your membership costs would almost certainly be higher.

3. At least of few of these people will actually make a lifestyle change. Yes, the vast majority of them will not but the odds are that at least a very small percentage of the new years crowd will continue to better their health for the rest of the year.

So just don't be a jerk. Remember that these people will be gone soon, they are saving you money, and at least a small handful of them will make a change for the better. The absolute worst thing you could do is be the a-hole that discourages one of those precious few resolutioners who will actually follow through. Happy New Years everyone!

Already noticed an increase in traffic at my gym. A lot of teachers and students on holidays I suppose. A very different vibe but a trip to the gym is always awesome (unless of course I cant get an open shower stall!).

I’m excited about it. If enough people sign up we might actually get new equipment besides ellipticals this year

Also note that some of us who show up around this time of year aren't total newbs, but rather have been driven inside by the -30C temperatures! (I'm still not sure why I live somewhere the air hurts my face...)
