Corticosteroids and diet (what a nightmare)

Hello all,
Just looking for some ideas from some that may have been in the same situation or are in this situation now.
I decided to get my life in order after 40 years of gluttony because of a recent diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis called enthesitis that almost crippled me due to severe 10/10 pain in my feet. I have been on 40mg of prednisone now for 2 1/2 months and at all times I am literally ready to eat the sheets off the bed! There is never a time that I feel satisfied but of course for the last month I have been doing intermittent fasting and exercise and my goodness it is really difficult.
What are some things that others here have done to deal with the amount of hunger coming from the steroids? I know it is a difficult situation but someone has to have dealt with this too. Right now I am taking 3 oxy-elite pro pre work out and and another appetite suppressant with green coffee bean/raspberry ketones/acai in it and caffine. They work ok but really they are not much help.

The first few times I was on Prednisone, I gained about 15 lbs. Yes, overeating is real. "See food, must eat it."
I would say the best thing you can do is keep logging your calories and be very strict with yourself. You need discipline like no one's business right now. It's hard I know but the alternative is massive weight gain when you really don't even need that much food. UGH! I feel for you!!0 -
Thanks for the support. It sure is hard. I have been keeping strict track of my calories and again doing the intermittent fast really makes it crazy but to make the gains/losses I need I have to be strict!
Thanks again!0 -
Hang in there!
"Eat the sheets off the bed!" LMAO!
Isn't THAT the truth!!0 -
About a year and a half ago, I had lost about 30 pounds and was feeling great and doing really well with diet/exercise.
Then I started having severe lower back pain--I've seen neurologists, chiropractors, rheumatologists, really every specialist under then sun, and one of them along the way put me on prednisone...and I had the same thing happen.
I was starving all the time, but I figured they would find the problem and it would be a short term thing so I didn't worry about it. Then they also found (among the blood tests for everything else) that I have hypothyroid!!!! Talk about a double whammy!!!!
Now I'm about 10 lbs heavier than I was than when I lost weight in the first place!!! Even though I havent been on the medicine for months now, I was still gaining weight so after talking to my doctors, I'm just starting to really track diet and exercise and really work to get those pounds back off and then some.
I can totally relate to how you're feeling. The best I can offer from when I was on the medicine is to drink a lot of water and to eat a lot of veggies--at least they aren't high in calories and they're good for you
Best of luck with everything and if you ever need someone to commiserate with about the joys of prednisone feel free to friend me!0
