My doctor gave me Ambien after my hysterectomy and it worked perfectly for a while. Until....I started doing some really bizarre things in my sleep that I had absolutely no memory of the next morning. I won't get graphic, but lets just say my hubby was pretty happy the next morning.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Ambien is one of those drugs for some people its great and others it makes them loopy. I have never taken it but i worked in a hospital and at night its kinda a 50/50 gamble when you give a pt ambien as to if they will sleep great or get a little coocky. generly we see this in the elderly more however whith the hormones lacking from hystorectomy that could be the onset. however there are far worse things you could be doing then making a happy husband but if it relly bugs you talk to your doc0

Thanks!
The things I do don't really bother me....it's the not remembering I did it. That's just weird!!0 -
I know someone who had to stop taking it because they were sleep walking and having night terrors. Not a good combo.0

Sounds about right. Last night I made a gibberish facebook post that I have NO memory of. I don't even know what language it was0

People have been reported to sleepwalk, sleep eat, and sleep drive on ambien...especially if it was mixed with alcohol. Google it and you'll find the articles. Also google dui and ambien. It is one drug I would never take. If a doctor prescribed it to me, I'd probably switch doctors.0

Some people will eat in their sleep, too.
Edit: Got in before I did!0 -
I was on Ambien for a long time after my stint in Iraq...due to my inability to sleep because of my nightmares....I did weird things on
Ambien to, mostly, I would "sleep eat"....I would wake up in the morning to all kinds of empty food bags/boxes around my bed and have no recolection of eating anything....and it gives me 'sleep amnesia'....I literally didn't remember anything from about an hour before I took it until I woke up the next day....
The weirdes thing I did when I was on it was when my husband found me outside at 9 pm digging in my flower bed with a soup spoon. Can't really explain that one...lol0 -
Look up "Natural Calm." I take it and I swear it works as good as ambien and it's drug free. It has high ratings and I know a lot of people who take it and all like it.
I don't have those side effects with ambien, but my grandma does. She makes peanut butter sandwiches in the middle of the night and (a) doesn't remember, and (b) hates peanut butter :-)0 -
My old roommate was on it, she use to call boys in the middle of the night. In the morning she would be very surprised to wake up with one next to her. Unfortunately this behavior led to one boy letting my sick cat (with stitches and the cone) outside in a rainstorm. Ambien ruins friendships and kills cats.0

I have problems sleeping and took Ambien about 2 years ago. Eventually 1 pill wasnt working and I "self-increased" my dosage to 2-3 pills/night. I went through a 30 day supply in about 15 days and when I went to the pharmacy to refill it, they told me that they couldnt refill it until the full 30 days had expired. Talk about feeling like a DRUG ADDICT at that moment!
I decided that very day that I was going to stop taking the meds/not get the prescription refilled. That night I had THE WORST NIGHTMARES (visions of "things" coming out of the wall, eerie feeling of something in the room, etc) . . . . I was TERRIFIED and did some serious praying that night!
Once I got past that 1st night without them, I was fine. I still cant sleep without the aid of something (Zyquil is as strong as I'll go now).0 -
Ambien, WOW. Years ago I suddenly lost the ability to sleep. I had no worries, stress...nothing that could affect my sleeping.
Doc gave me a script for Ambien & I took it for about one week and slept like a baby, but something told me it was just too good and I threw them away.
After doing a little research I discovered the problem for my not sleeping; are you ready for this? I had change the light bulb in my bedside reading lamp to one of the new brighter CFL bulbs and it suppressed my melatonin. I changed the bulb and presto - sleep.
If you have problems sleeping avoid bright lights a few hours before bedtime IE computer screens, etc. Remove all electronics from the bedroom that produce light, illuminated clocks, electronics with LED's such as found on equipment that is charging, phones, lap tops, etc.
And if you still have problems, take 1 gram melatonin about 1 1/2 hours before bedtime. (I cut it and take 1/2 when needed)
Melatonin is a light sensitive hormone produced by the pineal gland. Do your research.

SergeantG: First of all, thank you for your service!! Hope you are sleeping better now!
Thanks for all of your suggestions!! Like I said, the lack of memory is much more disturbing to me than turning into a nocturnal sexual deviant!0 -
Just be happy you haven't gotten behind the wheel of a car while in an Ambien trance. Sounds like dangerous stuff to me.0
