From the mouths of babes.........

So we're in the store, shopping down an aisle and my 4 year old son says at high volume...."That guy is FAAAAT. And you are too." The look on the man's face was one of resigned sadness and I was mortified. After correct parenting intervention on another aisle, and a subsequent apology from said 4 year old.... I came to realize that yes indeed. Daddy is fat. So.... here I am. Feel free to add me. Could use a little camaraderie. First time my kids have said, Damn dad.... (And he's my 6th kid) I've progressed to truly fat. Time to release the beast and get this back in action.

I'm so sorry, but I just had to laugh at your post....just becuase I have a four year old to, and I constantly live in fear of things she may say in public...(so far, the worst I have gotten is in a public restroom when she yells out - with those amazing bathroom acustics - MOMMY, ARE YOU GOING PEE PEE OR BOO BOO!!)
*SIGH*
those of us with kids can relate...and as miserable as it might be for us to hear, the awful and unabashed truth that comes out of their mouths could also be a sense of motivation....its one thing to hear somebody say, oh, you put on a little weight (I can almost stomach that)...but when your child points out the most obvious thing we have denied to ourselves, well, that is perspective!!!0 -
Thanks........0

Aw, cute of your son, but I understand your mortification that it was heard by the other man.
Kids say things uncensored, perhaps the most honest feedback. Double-edged sword kind of situation for sure, but at least it was a butt kick and realization for you.
Use the motivation to work it!0 -
I nearly die when my nephew says I have a big butt. Like, jeeze, kid, I'm aware, thanks. But he's almost 4, so I can't really get upset, but I hear yah.
Welcome Feel free to add. Always looking for more motivation friends!0 -
One day you'll want to thank him - it got you started earlier than you would have otherwise, right?
Of course, you probably won't feel that way until he's an adult himself, if then :P0 -
I will add you. If this is your 6th child you probably have a few that are my kids age. When I say I am fat my kids will tell me I'm not. Oh how they change! LOL0

My five year old always is telling me that I have a "chubbeh belleh" and then looks at her belly and asks if hers is fat too. The other day she even said, "Mom, your fat belly is kind of ugly. You should be skinny so you can take me to the pool all the time."
I hate that my mere existence makes my daughter be insecure about her own appearance because she is perfect! I keep telling her that five year olds don't need to think about having a fat or skinny belly, kids need to think about being healthy and having fun, but I don't think she's buying it. I don't want to be That Mom who makes such a big deal over weight, but when I'm 100 pounds overweight and hate every second of it, it's really hard to fake the fat acceptance, or the idea that I am pretty even though I'm big. I can play up the healthy eating and activity emphasis and I do, but it doesn't change a thing when my kids look at me in the moment and see gargantuan result of a decade of poor choices, without having the experience to know what a "decade of poor choices" is.0
