Is it okay to like a distant cousin?

Like at least 2nd or 3rd? That’s not strange? I don’t like someone but I know someone that wants to know. Sister is very different than a distant cousin.

Depends what you mean by "like". You shouldn't hate people, so yes it's good to like everyone. But if you actually mean romantic love, or relationship sort of love, I'd say it isn't worth it. Plus 2nd or 3rd cousin isn't really distant anyway.

I have a strong feeling you took this cousin to prom. Are the pickins that slim in your town?

If by like you mean the desire to enter into a romantic relationship:
There have been many marriages between cousins so I don't know how strange it is to like your 2nd or 3rd cousin in that way. It would be legal in the United States to marry a 2nd or 3rd cousin I believe. Your family and friends may or may not disapprove of such a relationship.
I know of no cousin marriages that close in my family in recent years but I haven't tried to trace everyone's family tree either. I don't thinkm I know my 2nd or 3rd cousins. I don't think it would bother me to learn that my spouse was my 3rd cousin and we shared a great great grandparent.

This genealogy blog talks about the issue: https://blog.eogn.com/2014/10/26/can-you-marry-your-cousin/

So is this something you want to do or you don't know how they are related to you?

My 1st cousin, Debbie, is my best friend. She was even my best man when I got married.

I feel you may be asking about something more than friendship though, huh?

Cousins are like mother nature's friends with benefits.

This is further explained by the state you live in ;)

    Wanna be related?

I think it depends- like I'm adopted so in reality I *could* date any of my cousins, but honestly, I wouldn't even date any of my classmates in HS, it was just too "familiar". My hubby was originally from NJ.

On the flip side, about as close as 100 years ago this was relatively normal. One of my great aunts was 13 when she married her cousin- it was to keep the money in the family. That happened in Sicily tho....

It’s okay to like a cousin but they have to be at least 1km away

I have cousins that married (they weren't blood related but grew up together as first cousins)....the family was very upset. It was weird when ppl try to ask which cousin you're related to...you have to say both.

My Aunt and Uncle are first cousins. When they decided to marry, it caused a huge problem and division among family members. However, I have to say that they just celebrated their 65th anniversary together and I have never seen a happier couple.
