PSS- I think most people skip the reintroduction phase, which almost makes the first Whole30 moot. There is slow reintro to eliminated foods, it just doesn’t seem to get most attention.

There is nothing about the reintroduction phase on the website nor on most reviews, so those following the fad aren't even introduced to it.

I've done whole 30 three different times. I feel like it's a very educational process and I highly recommend it for people who have unhealthy relationships with food (and let's face it , many of us do otherwise we probably wouldn't be struggling with weight) as it helps identify your own unhealthy triggers etc. I also learned about food sensitivities that I have that I never knew before. I did lose weight on it but if you are only interested in weight loss, there are far less restrictive ways of doing it.

If you are going to do it for the other benefits though, don't cheat the process. It really doesn't work the same. I've taken a couple week breaks from some of the foods that I'm sensitive to and not seen the same results as cutting them for the month. This is not a detox thing. The program works not because it's doing something that your liver already does, but because if you do in fact have food sensitivities (which a surprising number of people have without realizing it) then the inflammation and other system upsets going on need time to heal. Like , I mean literally heal (not airy fairy glowing crystal rejuvenate your body type heal lol) the way a sore or injury heals. People with Celiac or IBS tell me it's similar when they have a flare up - they might eat just one thing that wasn't right for them, but it can take weeks for their body to recover from it.

I'm on a round right now. I started Tuesday. This will be my 4th round in the last 18 months or so. I was initially on a doctor prescribed anti candida diet for a long time. I started back into eating things that make me ill so I decided to try the Whole30. It's a fabulous program and no it's not a diet which is why is gets ripped so hard on those diet rating things. I have a bad relationship with food and this has helped me a lot. I keep eating well after reintro for quite a while then I start to slide again. It's a good way both physically and mentally to hit the reboot button. For those people who are able to have one cookie and walk away, good for you. I can't! Just like I can't have a cigarette ever again or I will be back to smoking a pack a day despite quitting 20 years ago. It's nice for awhile to just eat good food that fills you up.

If you don't want to do a Whole 30 by following the rules and recommendations then don't. Don't cheat, you are only cheating yourself. It's nice to take a break from the anxiety that logging every damn calorie that goes in my mouth produces! And really, don't knock it til you try it!
