Can you be more specific as to what back problems you have? What are the symptoms and/or diagnoses?

The reason why I ask because if it's a muscle issue, I might be able to be of some help. My genetics are such that I have a pretty weak back, which resulted in spasms and constant soreness/fatigue. But through strength training, it's become an afterthought and rarely manifests into anything that's painful or uncomfortable.

If it's more of a nerve problem or disc, then you're probably going to want to meet with a physical therapist.

I had a microdysectomy 3 years ago in my lower back. I have a lot of pain in my lower back and have had repeat tests and it shows the disc is much better. I have spasms that go from the middle of my lumbar spine to my right hip.

    Thank you

I'm hesitant to give advice because my situation was a bit different than yours. You may want to google "microdysectomy" and "exercises" to see if there are any articles, blog posts, messageboard threads, etc. that offer some suggestions?

I'd have to think that there have been some powerlifters and/or bodybuilders who have experienced this and may have some advice on strengthening the back in a way that doesn't aggravate or trigger the back pain?

Good luck, hope you find something. If I see anything in my reading, I'll shoot you a message with the information.

Ask you doctor. Seeking advice like this on message boards is not a good idea.
The way to lose weight is through diet anyway. Exercise will do little to help you lose weight if you have poor nutrition. Diet and exercise work hand in hand.

    Good luck.

I also have spasms. I have found that strengthening my core and back greatly helps my back pain.
But before doing anything I would definitely check with a doctor. You might even look into a few months of physical therapy.
