Post-workout pain

I understand that I may be sore the day after lifting. And maybe even a little worse two days later. But 3 days after?
I have been trying to get into a regular lifting schedule. Goal is three days, but 2 at the minimum. I have been on-again-off-again since about March due to life....but that's another story.
I worked out Monday morning and my quads are STILL killing me. Like I am unable to run or walk up stairs fast pain. Not debilitating, but I am surprised I am still feeling it...
Just wanted to see if my fellow MFP'ers experience this sometimes. I was squatting pretty heavy (for me), it was a little heavier than in the past. I don't think I hurt myself, but I have been cautious about going back yesterday or this morning. I really don't want to put it off another day, and kind of feel like a bum for skipping out this morning again.
Do you work through the pain after lifting? At what point do you tell yourself to suck it up and get back in there??
Thanks
