Has anyone tried substituting whey protein powder in recipes that call for powdered milk? How did it turn out? I'm curious about throwing some in my homemade yogurt.

I’ve actually used it in my coffee bc I was out of almond milk one morning and it was super tasty. However depending on your recipe and protein powder you use it may make it a bit sweet since there is usually some type of sweetener added.

According to an article on a site called SFGate , you can substitute whey concentrate for non-fat dry milk in baked goods, protein gram for protein gram (which is a big volume difference because dry milk granules are big and fluffy, and whey concentrate granules are smaller and denser). It also advises using a lower baking temperature.

Your whey protein powder may have other stuff (flavors, sweetener) that would affect the taste. I use a whey concentrate from Bob's Red Mill that has nothing else in it.
