Currently reading "The China Study" by T. Colin and Thomas Campbell.
Who else has read the book?
What did you think of the findings?
What changes, if any, have you made in your diet and/or lifestyle?

I thought it was so convincing but I went LCHF instead.

It's actually been heavily debunked by scientists and medical professionals, through the scientific method (double-blind tests etc.). The problem with TCS is that they went into it knowing what they wanted to be the results, and skewed the studies to fit their foregone conclusion. That's not how science works.0

When they do a study that separates mass produced hotdogs, and McDonald's hamburgers from lean grass fed beef, and naturally fed free range poultry and game meat, then I would be interested.0

This is one of the more controversial subjects on mfp, this could get ugly fast lol.
But yes, I read it years ago and at that time didn't feel inclined to make any changes to my diet. Continued eating the typical 'American' diet with all those super sized portions and surprise surprise, continued to get fatter I did alternate day IF to lose weight this past fall/winter (an unconventional calorie restricting plan that worked brilliantly for me), and this spring, as I started transitioning to maintenance, I became really interested in food and how it's connected to good/bad health. Especially how it relates to diabetes and cancer, which my family tree is FULL of  (also at that time my mil was wrapping up radiation treatments and my friend had just gotten her cancer diagnosis, and then we had also just lost a woman in our church congregation, who was in her 30s like me, due to her cancer. Really made me start thinking about it).
That led me to watching the document Forks over Knives, which led me to lectures by doctors like John McDougall, which then led me to books like Eat to Live, by Dr. Fuhrman And here I am today, transitioning to a whole foods, plant based diet, with a goal to eventually adopt a vegan diet.Of everything I've read/watched-The China Study was actually the weakest. And his new book, Whole Foods, I really disagreed with (advocating the 80/10/10 diet-which 80% being carbs). The China Study can be a good starting point, to get you thinking, but I'd look into some other books, to get more up to date information.0 -
llstacy, I'll keep that link to read once I finish the book.
As far as scientists having ideas going into testing, I think that's the whole point of experiments, to test your ideas and see if you are right...just my two cents on that.
Lenora, that's a good point about more heavily processed foods!
SJ, Thanks for the book and movie rec's, trying to read up more so I can make better choices.0 -
