Interesting decade

Hi All - I just turned 54 in December and have decided its time to lose the weight. I spent most of my life under weight and when I hit about 45 the ars fairy showed up one night and poof - I started getting a butt. I have put on about 50+ lbs over this decade and I want to get back to being healthy. Most of my family fought the battle of the bulge their whole life so I saw how hard it was for them. Most of the time my mom and sister were on some weird fad diet. I think the steak and watermelon was the weirdest. I eat healthy food - just way too much of it. I don't get as much exercise as I should - so with some help from my (hopefully) new friends for support - I can meet my goal weight soon. Any advice and tips would be appreciated.

Sounds like you already have a great mindset; stay away from the weird fad diets, just eat a variety of foods and not too much of it. So my first piece if advice is to keep that mindset, and don't go doing any weird crazy things . Logging can help you get back on track and where you want to be.

The first covers accurate logging and some of the tools in MFP to help you make things easier. The second discusses caloric needs and setting goals. These two posts completely changed my MFP experience and helped me be much more successful, so I hope they do the same for you.
