What exercise should I do to strengthen upper body to help me do good push ups.
I can do around 10 on knees, but not all the way down as I would like it to. Also I would like to gradually stop knee push-ups and do the regular ones.

Close grip bench press. Classic bench press. Landmine press. Once you can bench your BW it's easy.

Push ups are a great way to strengthen your upper body to do push ups. Do as many as you can and gradually increase the number as you get stronger.

You could always start with wall pushups, work your way to countertop pushups, maybe next to chair/ottoman pushups, then finally go all the way down to the floor after you've built strength. Doing it that way progressively decreases the incline of your upper body while doing the pushups (the more incline you have, the less weight you're pushing/the easier it is). As you decrease the incline, they will get progressively more difficult.

full upperbody training that include your arms, especially your triceps, and your back and lats and shoulder will all help with your pushup strength.
  • I do 160 or so a day in sets of 30. One way i found to increase volume was to add a 10kg plate on my back. Note that typically you are moving 80% of your body wight during the exercise.
