i have a lot of bulgur wheat, cornmeal, and various beans in my pantry, that I've been making into meals since starting my diet, along with some mixed veggies, along with anything else available thats at least relatively healthy.
weighing out the beans, ive realized just how many calories a small portion has. just this morning my breakfast was about 560 calories, most of that from 100 grams of cooked pinto beans
what is a cheap protein option that isnt so excessive in calories per serving? this is making it really hard to stick to 1200 calories.

Cooked beans has around 100-150 calories per 100 grams, so something is off in your calculations. Beans is a good source of protein, especially paired with grains.2

Tuna.1

pure protein would be something like shrimp - but I don't know how well that would mix with bulger0

Canned tuna or salmon. Though I think your using a bad entry for the beans.0

Chicken or turkey sausage. I agree with other posters that you may be using a bad entry for pinto beans.0

A 5oz chicken breast can have as much as 45g of protein and relatively low in fat. You can eat them whole, chop them up in salads, chicken kabobs...the possibilities are endless.
I have also used Met Rx flavored whey protein in the past. The vanilla flavor is quite good when blended with low fat milk and a banana, and unlike some protein powders, this one is lower in fat. Not necessarily cheap though.
Tuna is always a cheap option. Salmon is good too, but not cheap.0 -

I second this. If your entries are coming up higher than 1-1.5 calories of beans per gram, there might be an accuracy issue.2
