Your body requires a certain amount of sodium per day. The National Heart Lung and Blood Association reports that 500 mg is a safe daily minimum intake of sodium.

Here is what the American Heart Association recommends:

The American Heart Association recommends no more than 2,300 milligrams (mgs) a day and an ideal limit of no more than 1,500 mg per day for most adults.

As for me personally, I usually try to keep it around 2,000 mg. I find it extremely difficult to consistently come in under 2,000.

WHO says 200 to 500 milligrams a day for a minimum; you're going to have a hard time getting less than that. A cup of yogurt, for example, has 115mg; a grilled chicken breast 77mg; a slice of wheat bread 147mg; a stalk of celery 32mg. That's 371mg right there.

People with hypertension should have no more than 1500 per day; if you don't have hypertension or kidney problems you can have up to 2300. I don't know what the lowest you can go. Your body needs sodium.

2300mg is the recommended amouny for a sedentary individual. Those who exercise need more.

Sodium is essentially to life, so i dont stress it too much unless you have hypertension.

I actually aim for about 5k.
