Try leeches. Much better for cleansing the body of evil.
This is unnecessary sarcasm. The OP was simply asking for advice. Just say "no, its not a good idea". Or don't post. Posts like this make me not even want to use MFP

Unnecessary sarcasm? Hi. I see you're new to the internet. I would like to offer you a warm welcome. Please enjoy your stay.

Yes; been there, did that twice. Nothing bad happened to me except an irregular heartbeat near the end of the 10 days, also lightheadedness.

I've learned since then that the irregular heartbeat can actually kill people. Research side effects and contraindications to this cleanse.

Also, I lost weight and gained it all back within a month.

    I really can't recommend it.
  • I find the best way to cleanse the body is to remove it of things that are actually bad for you, like refined sugars, alcohol and junk food...you know...a healthy diet, rich in vegetables of all colours, lean meats, wholewheat/wholemeal carbohydrates and plenty of water....

    exercise works a treat too

Where's the line between "no, I wouldn't it isn't a very good idea" and "HELL NO, are you CRAZY?" to be drawn?

Generally, I'd say where the idea put forward has crossed into territory where it would cause damage or danger to the person proposing the idea. The Matser Clense is a stupid, dangerous plan (not saying the people who try it are stupid, just that the plan itself is). So people need to be told that it's stupid and dangerous, not that it might not be a good idea.

When coddling someones feelings takes precedence over telling them flat out that something is a terrible idea and shouldn't be considered, there's something wrong.

How do we really know if sarcasm is necessary or not? Is there a formula or rule or something?

Sarcasm is my favorite food group!

Drinking water cleanses the body. Drinking water is healthy.

You can tell someone they are being unhealthy in a NICE way without belittling them. Some people are just genuinely uniformed or misinformed and you can inform them without making them feel stupid.

You don't need to be a jerk and make others feel unintelligent or inferior to get your point across.

Well, then you get a bunch of people being nice saying, yeah, I did it, it was great. And a bunch of people being nice saying, it's not healthy, don't do it. And the person is undecided because they might get 50/50 response and still not be convinced that it is really bad. Being abrupt about it and saying HECK NO, that deters more people saying they did it and it was great, so therefore, less convincing anecdotal evidence for the unhealthy side, and more likely the person will get the point quite quickly that it's a bad idea. We're doing them a favor doing it this way, by saving them time and uncertainty.

Agreed. With dangerous things like this, you have to be kind of aggressive. If we're more passive, like "hey, I don't think it's a great idea," then we're doing the OP a disservice. If I came in here and asked about something and people lost their minds over it, it would make me step back and want to do more research. If I asked something and got a bunch of "meh, not really" answers, along with the people who are encouraging it, then I would probably go ahead and try it. It's letting the OP know, in no uncertain terms, that this is a BAD idea.

I agree. Sometimes someone has an idea that, yeah, it's not the best. But it's not overly harmful, so you just sort of politely discourage it. And then sometimes it's necessary to pull the brakes and say, "Woah. No. Don't do it. Please."

OP: This is one of those things that IS potentially, seriously harmful. That's why you're getting such a passionate response, in case it's not clear.

My point exactly, thank you! You can say "HECK NO, it's really not a good idea at all..." and not add in all the demeaning comments that make you feel totally stupid for asking in the first place. They will get the point. And being nice doesn't mean you have to say what a great idea something is if it isn't. It is possible to be both honest and kind.

I disagree. Not a single comment in here is an attack on the OP. These are attacks on a fantastically stupid idea, and an attack on stupidity in general.

I would rather see someone feel a bit silly than see them fall for this garbage.

    Sorry what?

Alcohol is excellent for you (I'm a big fan), refined sugars are treated just like sugar in the body and junk food - no such thing.

Nothing is actually bad for you in MODERATION. :noway:

I recently read that Gwyneth Paltrow did the Master Cleanse in her younger years and it gave her hallucinations. Sounds like a winner to me! Knock yourself out! :)

Thank you for that LOL moment. Who needs LSD when you can just master cleanse?!

Absolutely agree, there has not been one post which belittles the poster. It is the clense that has copped a flogging, and rightfully so.

Everyone is going to rip my head off for this one....

Ive done it a few times and LOVED it. I think Ive done it 3 times in the past few years (10 days max each), and Ive never looked at it as a weight loss thing. I love the way it makes me feel and I always have better results from losing weight afterwards. Im not saying its a good idea, or it will magically make you drop pounds...Im just saying what my experience is from it.

    Age 21.... Nuff said.

Seems like you are projecting a lot on my two little sentences. Sometimes drawing a comparison between two things is a better way to communicate a point. Analogy is often a useful tool.

Offering an alternative useless and possibly dangerous method to rid the body of unspecified made up contaminants might help the OP and others see the truth of what most people are saying.

My whole mom's side of the family is obsessed with the MC and does it regularly and I honestly can't figure out why. They are all overweight or obese. They always go on about how they lose 10-20 lbs in 10 days even though they gain it right back as soon as they start eating again. And they can't really tell me the benefits they see from it, they just see a bunch of weird *kitten* comes out in the toilet... really gross.

I'm not sure if this is helpful to you in any way but oh well, I tried. :flowerforyou:

The evil humors are building up in my body again and I just can't find a proper doctor anymore.

Hmmm... Sounds like your yellow bile, water, and blood are not in balance with your black bile.

    Bleeding should be very thorough

I'd like to point out that, if this actually ever happened on this site, the moderators would delete the thread as being supportive of unhealthy weightloss.

Sorry but you're not going to find supporters of any sort of cleanse/detox/flush/water fast on MFP. Anyone who tries to extol the virtues of the aforementioned plans usually gets ridiculed. Just a heads up.

please explain the virtues of said cleanse, as opposed to the natural cleansing process our body goes through...

OP - unless you have stopped pooping, urinating, sweating, etc...then you are already cleansing yourself daily ...
