Don't over-complicate it:
- Set yourself a reasonable goal and enter your details correctly
- Set yourself a sustainable rate of loss - it's better to lose slowly over a long time in a way you can stick to than lose faster and quit because you are hungry and miserable
- Make small changes over time - log a couple of days of normal eating and review those to see where you can make small non-drastic changes that can have a lasting impact rather than going head first making massive changes that won't last.
- Don't try to be overly restrictive - if you tell yourself you can't have something, you will likely want it more.
- Eat foods you like - everything is fine, in moderation. If you can't moderate something don't keep it at home, but don't think of it as totally off limits.
- Be consistent - patience and consistency is what will get you there in the end.
