Protein in yoghurt

Hi

My local grocery store sells natural yoghurt with 10g protein per 100g, but it costs an arm and a leg. My idea was to buy it and use it as a starter to make my own yoghurt. However, I realised that milk only contains 3.5g protein per 100g.
Sooo my question is what kind of protein content my new yoghurt will have? Is it based on the milk levels, ie it would end up only having 3.5g/100? Is there anything I can do to raise the protein content in my yoghurt? How did the manufacturer make a natural yoghurt with no additives (according to the label) and get 10g protein per 100g?

Hope you have some ideas and tips

    That would make normal yogurt.

    You need to strain the whey away to make greek yoghurt which then raises the protein %.

    I'm on my phone and can't link but google home made greek yogurt instructions.

    You use a lot of liquid (water) from milk in making yogurt, and only a comparatively small amount of whey protein, so the 3.5 g protein/100 g of milk is concentrated in a much smaller mass of yogurt. You can strain your yogurt to make greek style yogurt, and concentrate the protein even further. The manufacturer most likely didn't do anything other than get rid of liquid to get 10 g protein per 100 g of yogurt (that sounds like a strained or greek style yogurt to me, as 225 g of the greek yogurts I buy generally have about 20 g of protein).

    Realize that you'll likely be using about four times as much milk by volume as the yogurt you produce if you're going for a greek-style yogurt with roughly 10 g of protein in 100 g of yogurt, so factor that in when determining whether you'll be saving money by making it yourself. Figure a gallon of milk to get a quart of greek style yogurt (or four liters of milk for a liter or roughly a kilo of greek style yogurt).
