Toxins = old poop

As someone who has cleansed, I can say there are reasons to do so (although not as the OP suggested). It plays on the adaption model, where your body is trying to find equilibrium. When you vary the stimuli, in a controlled manner, it allows you to hack your metabolism and accomplish things you wouldn't have been able to otherwise. I don't completely agree with Tim Ferriss, but he had a few things right. You can hack your fat.0

Bull****.
Solid material is moved along the intestinal tract via a wave like motion. Here is a wiki explanation of how that works:
Peristalsis is a radially symmetrical contraction and relaxation of muscles which propagates in a wave down a muscular tube, in an anterograde fashion. In humans, peristalsis is found in the contraction of smooth muscles to propel contents through the digestive tract. It is wave contraction of longitudinal and circular muscles preceded by wave relaxation of these muscles. Earthworms use a similar mechanism to drive their locomotion.[1] The word is derived from New Latin and comes from the Greek peristallein, "to wrap around," from peri-, "around" + stallein, "to place".
In much of the gastrointestinal tract, smooth muscles contract in sequence to produce a peristaltic wave which forces a ball of food (called a bolus while in the esophagus and gastrointestinal tract and chyme in the stomach) along the gastrointestinal tract. Peristaltic movement is initiated by circular smooth muscles contracting behind the chewed material to prevent it from moving back into the mouth, followed by a contraction of longitudinal smooth muscles which pushes the digested food forward. Catastalsis is a related intestinal muscle process.[2]
In order for what you say to be true, the old poop would have to be stored in a special old poop storage area so that the new poop could get out. A mechanism would have to exist for diverting all this old poop to the special old poop storage area.
In medieval times, you may have been able to convince me there are intestinal gnomes living in there who ferry the new poop around the old poop. But then I might go witness an execution, and as they rip out the guts I might ask "how would one push something through that muscular tube without first pushing out the existing contents"?
Bingo.
Logic: It makes me sweaty.0 -
Doesn't make sense to me!
Unless there is some sort of out pouching from the intestine that science has yet to find, the only way old "poop" is staying in the system is if you have a bowel obstruction!
Being a final year nursing student I can say for a fact that I would not wish an obstruction on anyone, very painful and if not fixed with meds/fluids then you are having surgery!0 -
Your body is *supposed* to absorb things from what passes through the GI. When it doesn't, it causes serious damage to the body. An extremely amazing woman that is a friend of a friend actually suffers from a disease that causes her body to not absorb anything through her GI.
She has just recently gotten to the point where the doctors are unable to perform any more surgeries on her and she's facing her own mortality. The lack of absorption of minerals and vitamins through the GI is causing her body to slowly eat itself alive, in a manner of speaking. It's leeching calcium from her bones, and can't form new red blood cells, so she is constantly having to get transfusions. She can barely eat food at all and mostly subsists on mashed up/blended foods and clear liquids. Most often with an IV to supplement basic human vitamin/mineral needs to stay alive.
Even on that diet she faces blockages because her body isn't breaking the food she does eat properly and she has so much scar tissue from previous surgeries and other issues that things just can't pass properly. (Imagine a hardened section of an earthworm and it trying to move, to draw back on a previous analogy on this thread).
She can no longer lay down flat due to the pain and constriction that happens in her torso and has been told, I'm so many words, that all she faces at the current time is a slow and painful path towards death.
So marvel at what your body absorbs from that poop in your intestines. Be happy that it takes what it does from the food you've eaten and uses it to make your body function how it should. Don't try to curse it for those things. Don't try to flush that stuff out of your system before it has a chance to give as much as it can back to your body. And realize that there are some people in this world that would trade anything to have their body absorb those "toxins", as you called them, into their system.0 -
Just cause OP says it, doesn't mean it's true. As long as your internal organs are functioning properly, your body cleanses itself.0

It's actually a cookie. There are recipes for them if you google it. And there's a company that sells unicorn poop cookies as well. They show up on Fab sometimes.0 -
It's getting to the point where become autmatically super skeptical whenever someone attempts to make a point that starts with "when humans were hunter gatherers"
Because most of the time what follows is something they made up without doing any research on either humans or hunter gatherers.0 -

And also, the average primitive hunter/gatherer had a lifespan of, what? Thirty years?0 -
What toxins are removed?0

ANNNNNNDDDDDDD now we know why our appendix is no longer necessary. We don't need it to store poop in anymore! YAY! No more dark scary infected storage areas!:devil:0

Out of curiosity what defines new poop vs. old poop.
Interesting little study here the transit time for tribal people like the Masai is probably 2-3 days where the Western transit time is like 5-70 -

It's unicorn poop, damn it!
The unicorns are smart and know to get their old poop flushed out. Those sprinkles prob cause major back ups.0 -

Sometimes I think I've gotten too skeptical. Then I come across posts like this and I figure, better too far in that direction than the other way.0 -
as a youngster i used to think you had a conveyer belt in your *kitten* and there was a little man with an ax who would cut off the pieces of crap.

hmmmm OP never came back, I suspect a troll thread....
so your saying that Rib Eye I ate seven years ago is still in there....hmmm, maybe I should try and find it...0 -

This doesn't make any sense at all. If you had "old poop" in your colon, how would the "new poop" be able to get through? It's basically a pipe; when there's a block in the pipe, it can't drain. This is what was call constipation. Eventually, though, it's got to come out- and it usually does. If not, medical intervention may be required. But the idea that three month old poop is sitting around while two day poop makes it out okay, somehow skirting around it, is illogical.
ETA: Also, believing in something doesn't make it true. Theories =/= science. I might believe a giant dung beetle pushes the sun across the sky every day, but that doesn't make it reality.
I don't mean to be rude, but I would really like it if one person posting about "toxins building up in the colon" could provide peer-reviewed scientific studies that prove it to be true. Or even likely. I'd take likely.
Hmmm...we just call it politics where I'm from.0 -

well that too ..but they are just spewing bullish*t and intestine is not backed up ..or maybe you have to have a backed up intestine to be in politics...?0 -
I ate a coconut macaroon last night. And then I listened to The Bangles. So I expect to see this later.0

this problem is easily solved by doing a cauliflower cleanse...0

so your saying that once you start crapping out of your mouth everything goes to *kitten*????0 -
I clean up poop for a living. I promise you. What goes in must come out. Sometimes I gotta go digging for it when it gets stopped up :sad:0
