First Week Weight Loss

Hey I’m back on MFP and started Monday. As of Friday I am down almost 10lbs. I started at 305.6 and am at 296.6. I weigh myself every morning after going to the bathroom for consistency. My question is if this huge drop is just water weight or actual weight loss. Everyone around me says I look less swollen and my clothes all feel looser. I haven’t actually measured myself which I guess would really tell me if I’m loosing inches. Anyways I went from eating horribly to clean eating and cut out the heavy drinking I was doing as well. Either way I feel good just curious if this is a fluke or will it continue.

Both. It's common to lose a lot of water at first. But this rate should be temporary...if it continues after the second week, you're probably eating too little.

It should continue to a degree - for a while anyway. A year ago when I started I lost 7 lbs my first week, then 5 lbs, then 3.5 lbs then 2.5 lbs. After that started averaging about 2 lbs a week. I also started around 300 lbs.

Thanks I’m sticking close to my goals so far within a few hundred here and there. Actually finding it hard to hit the numbers eating healthy.

Thanks. I’m trying to break 200 as my ultimate goal. Right now I set micro goals of 20lbs at a time though. I can’t remember a time I was below 200. Probably middle school! Lol

@ddafonseca - that's my same goal, under 200. It was also in Jr High for me last time I weighed that. I got close about 10 years ago (212), this time I'm determined to make it.

I started at 315 pounds ( Two and a half years ago).
I lost a few pounds in the first week with it decreasing in a sliding scale, than plateauing from time to time. ( And frustratingly... Increasing often as well).

Initial weight loss was mainly water weight. Fat stores won’t be tapped into for a little while, but the bloating and water retention can be a real problem. So there would be much more of a definition to your appearance.
I do recommend take photos and measurements regularly.
These will serve as an excellent record in the months and years to come.
Always, always keep in mind However, this is lifetime commitment.
So it is going to take as long as it takes!!

    All the best.

Hello how are y’all doing. I started off at 420 yea it’s a lot lol I got down to 316 as my best weight I blew back up to 350. What are things y’all doing good wise and workout wise that’s helping it’s like I went blank on what I was doing to loose weight and now just stuck at 350. Also include that I had a motorcycle accident and was stuck in the house for like 3 months the reason for the increase.

Just eating healthier.. tracking calories and the type of food you eat. I cut all processed junk out and bad sugars. Mostly complex carbs like brown rice and quinoa and such. I haven’t even started exercising but I am trying to move around more then before. Just going for walks. At some point I know I’ll have to incorporate exercise as this initial drop will slow down.
