Hi. I'm new to this whole thing and having trouble getting started. I have many reasons to lose weight: I'm pre-diabetic, I know I will be healthier, I have bad arthritis in my foot and know that losing weight would help relieve pain, and my son is getting married in October so I want to look nicer for that.

Maybe it will be easier for you to start (and continue) if you remind yourself that to lose weight, all you have to do, is to consistently take in fewer calories than you burn? MFP gives you your calorie target based on certain parameters - sex, age, height, weight, which should be easy enough - and activity level and desired weekly weight loss rate, which are a bit trickier - "your activity level" here means non-exercise activity, and weight loss rate should be set to no more than 1% of your body weight.0
