Question about sleep.

I know sleep isn't exactly a topic relating to weight loss, even though lack of sleep can affect weight loss. But this question is about overall sleep in regards to health. They say you need about 6 to 8 hours of sleep per night. What if you're busy with stuff and only get about 3 to 4 hours at a time? Does it still make up for the loss if you sleep later in the day? Or does it have to be straight hours of sleep, if that makes sense. Thanks.

From what I understand about sleep research, it is best to try and keep your sleep routine as consistent as possible. However, you can get away with less once in awhile.

Lack of sleep affects hormones and doesn't allow stress to lower. Statistics show that people who get inadequate sleep or rest are at higher risk for health issues.

A long period of uninterrupted sleep is best. I usually get around 5 hours, but more would be better.

The most rested I've ever felt in my life was when I was keeping roughly to my newborn's schedule: two hours of sleep, feeding break, three more hours of sleep, and a three-hour nap in the middle of the day. I seriously felt fantastic and hoped that stage would never end (it did). At the time my husband found some articles that were very much in favor of that kind of split-up sleep, but if he ever tried to do it he'd be a zombie.

I think 1) You need enough sleep. If you can't get it in one piece for whatever reason, you still need it, so break it up. 2) Our bodies aren't all identical. If you find something that truly works for you (not crazy nonsense like "I actually function better on two hours because everything's so fuzzy is the sky a pineapple?" but actually enhancing your life), then that's the schedule you should try to follow.

You can have two sleeps. <3 Try to keep them on schedule -- not moving all around to different times.
