Serving size Cup

Hi All,

Am new to fitnesspal.

When I search certain food the serving size is only 1 cup. How many ounces or gms is 1 cup? Just saying 1 cup can mean either 200 ml or 300 ml - there are so many different measures.

Is there a standard that myfitnesspal uses?

Thanks
Michael

If you google "how many (measures) are in x (measures) google will calculate it for you. I do this almost everyday. It's pretty quick. For example today I weighed some cauliflower in ounces, but there was only grams in MFP. So I googled "how many grams in 11.7 ounces" and it calculated 331.689.

i recommend buying a cheap food scale. if you're even unsure about portion size of cups or ounces....grams are amazing for getting it down for sure. I got one for 25 bucks on amazon which tares, has kg, oz, lbs, and g's

Agree with the food scale. Makes life so much easier! You can get one off eBay for dirt cheap.

    1 cup = 8 oz.

    For fluid measure, this.

For the ounces/grams that the OP also asked about, there is no weight conversion for one cup. One cup is a volume measure and can't be easily converted straight across to weight. Think about if you have one cup of mini marshmallows and one cup of granola. They're the same volume, but very different weights.

Grams to ounces or ounces to grams is a standard weight conversion. But also don't confuse fluid ounces with ounces. 8 fluid ounces can also weigh different amounts based on the viscosity/density of the fluid being measured.

Your best best is to get a food scale. Weigh everything that isn't liquid and carefully measure all liquids in a liquid measuring cup (not dry measuring cups).
