These are both fairly misleading headlines. The scientists in question only ever managed to reduce the calories in rice by 10-12% and that doesn't include the increase in calories by adding coconut oil (as I recall). They are hopeful it might reduce calories in some varieties of rice by 50%, but that hasn't been proven yet. It's an interesting experiment, but it's not a solution yet.
Not to mention reducing the calories by definition would reduce the nutritional value of the rice.2 -
OP, I eat either white rice, farro, potatoes, or pasta (often more than one) every single day. Not to mention oatmeal for my daily breakfast (and sometimes a snack!). I lost weight just fine and I am now maintaining just fine. Different people are filled up by different foods. I happen to find starchy carbs filling, so their calorie count is fine for me - I can eat a reasonable amount and be happy. Unfortunately right now people who aren't filled up by carbs are getting all the attention and make it seem like no one can eat carbs in moderation. But there are lots of us out here doing just that
And I agree you should look into recomp. It requires patience, but I think it will get you where you want to be.2 -
I use this entry for cooked rice. I always make too much and usually have left overs, so it's easier for me to use the cooked entry.
