Hi, I am new to this - been on MFP for a week. All seems to be going okay so far, other than it does not appear to be falling off! Still, at 47 what can I expect??!
I keep telling myself I am going to have to be patient, change my lifestyle and focus on the end game, it will happen! It has to happen! I have some lovely clothes in my wardrobe & I have no plans to give them away!!
I hope there are some people I can chat to on here to keep me motivated and hopefully vice Versa....?! Very good luck one and all

Welcome! Your instincts are spot-on: weight loss always takes longer than you think it will. For the first 4-6 weeks, be patient, log as accurately as you can, and carry on. As long as you're sticking with it, you're on the right path.
I'm going to recommend a couple of really helpful links:
http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1234699/logging-accurately-step-by-step-guide/p1
http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants/p1
The first covers accurate logging and some of the tools in MFP to help you make things easier. The second discusses caloric needs and setting goals. These are two of the most commonly-referenced threads on MFP; tons of people point to them as being sources of great info when you're starting out.
For more friends check out these threads which ended up gaining a lot of traction.

Welcome! I find it helps me to focus on how good I feel when eating right and working out, even if the scale isn't moving in the right direction.
Good luck!
