New to MFP but not new to needing a change.

Hi! My name is Thomi from Maine and I've only been using MFP for 2 weeks so I'm fairly new. I'm not new to being overweight and needing to make a change though and I've tried through the years to lose weight by going on popular diets, only to lose weight and then put it back on and then some when I stopped the program. I find following a "points" system or buying prepackaged food tedious and I want to learn to change my way of eating in a real way that works for me even after I lose the weight. I want to make dinner for my hubby without cooking for him and then warming up a meal for me. I want to learn what one serving size looks like and to be more mindful of what I eat. I went to my first appointment with the nutritionist so I have a better understanding of exactly what my body needs to lose weight and to be healthier. I'm feeling hopeful that I can make the necessary changes.

I've been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and I want to use MFP not only to lose weight, but to help me keep track of my nutrition so I can better manage my diabetes. So far, between the nutritionist and MFP, I'm feeling much better and haven't had the roller coaster highs and lows with my blood sugar. I'm feeling much better about making a positive change and being able to see exactly what I'm eating has helped me immensely.

I'm not currently working out but I'm no stranger to it and plan on returning to it soon. I used to be very thin and athletic through my 20's but since developing some health issues, I stopped being active and gained a lot of weight. I plan on adding some walking and light weightlifting to my daily routine but at this point, I'd like to just focus completely on the food piece. I have a wonderfully supportive husband and some crazy critters who keep me busy so I do get up and about so I'm not quite as sedentary as one would assume but I could definitely use some structured exercise time.

I LOVE to cook from scratch and MFP is awesome because I can plug in a recipe and see exactly what the numbers are for each serving. On a couple of occasions, I've changed ingredients or lessened a measurement after seeing the value on MFP to make it more healthy. The results have been excellent and tasty. I also love "Cooking Light" and I've been plugging some old favorites into MFP as well recipes I haven't tried that look good. Anyone who wants to talk about cooking or diabetes or just wants a weight loss buddy, feel free to add me. Anyway, just wanted to say hello. Thanks!
