Did I really gain 4 inches in a month?

It’s safe to say that the time between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day can be a rough one for us all.
Between the holidays and stressful times at school, it is so hard to stay active and eat right. I can admit that I ate out and ate sweets far too often...
But is it really possible that I gained 4+ inches on my waist in that short time?
I still worked out at least 3x per week..
I have struggled with my weight all my life, and
at 5’7” with a 30.5 inch waist I wasn’t complaining, but I definitely wasn’t happy.
My clothes are tighter and now, when I measure my waist, the tape reads 35”!! This is so discouraging... does anyone know what could be going on??

Are you measuring in the same spot??0

Yes.
I will make one revision to my earlier post: I did stop working out for ~1 month. But I’m still having trouble believing that I gained this much!0 -
Doesn't really matter how much you worked out, how many calories did you consume during all this time? If you are taking in 4K calories a day from a bad diet, and bad macro %'s, sure you can gain a lot.1

Yes, make sure you are measuring in the same spot. And it seems likely that unless you were actively logging through the holidays, that you probably ate significantly more calories than you think and did put on some weight. It could perhaps be a combination of weight gain and some bloating from overeating generally.0 -
Yes. The answer is yes it's possible.
2 years back, I went from 260ish to 240ish and gained 4 inches on my waist. Due to inactivity. so by overeating and being inactive, at the same time it's certainly possible. Yes, I lost 20+ pounds and gained inches.
You don't mention weight gain/loss are you tracking your weight.0 -
No, I am not tracking my weight.
A few years ago I became obsessive. Now, I don’t even own a scale.
I guess my next question is:
Is there any way I can lose this weight quickly? I’ve been eating better and working out for about a week and notice no changes0 -

Do you mean more quickly than the 4-8 weeks it took to put it on. Nope.
Additionally, unless you're tracking calories, just eating better and working out is probably going to leave you spinning your wheels.3
