Stomach ache after eating “bad” foods?

I started my “health journey” over a year ago, and I lost about 100lbs. Then for about six months I stopped tracking and instead of reaching my goal I started eating unhealthy stuff again and gained a few pounds back. About three weeks ago I started my plan again and have lost about 10lbs.

My plan is basically just calorie counting with an emphasis on trying to be as healthy as possible. While I normally eat lean meats and veggies, tonight and another night last week I just decided to eat what my family was having. So for dinner I ate a fried chicken breast, and 1/3 cup macaroni salad. It fit fine within my calorie budget and I still have some left, as did i last week when I ate with them.

The problem is, both tonight and last week when I ate “unhealthy dinners” I felt extremely sick afterwards. I ended up with a very upset stomach both times! A month ago before I started my plan I would’ve eaten double or triple the bad stuff I did tonight and been fine. Is this just a coincidence, or can the body adapt that quickly to healthy eating that fried foods now make me sick?

It's probably a combination of eating too large a quantity plus eating food your body is not accustomed to.

If you are a lot of pain after fatty foods, it could be signs of a gallbladder issue (this happened to my wife). But then again, I found after i cleaned up my diet, eating fried and fatty foods gave me stomach cramps.

Ok first- no, your body has not adapted to a different diet that quickly- just doesn’t happen that way. Heck, it doesn’t even happen after a few months- most plant food is only available a few months of the year, naturally. People devloped to be able to eat food with that sort of availabilty. We don’t really need to readjust, barring some bacteria/enzyme production issues, which take much longer than a month.

You could have a parasitical infection in the gut- some of these respond to certain foods.

You could have developed a food intolerance or allergy- these are often to foods you eat a lot, but also, many people I know have discovered what was going on because they went off a food for a while and when they tried eating it again, they got sick.

Easiest way to tell that is to try each ingredient separately and see how you do. Then go and talk to a doc about it.

Or as was said- gall bladder can cause pain with fat digestion if there problems too

    Why is that bad food?

    Sounds nice to me

Happens to me. I work in a restaurant with big portions, and oily creamy (delicious) food. If I eat something I haven't eaten in a while, like our nachos or cheesy bread, I'm suffering that night. It does usually involve me eating more than I "should."

It doesn't matter if it is stereotypical "good" or "bad" foods, I sometimes don't feel great when I eat a meal that is either much bigger than usual or that has much more fat than usual. If you are normally eating lean meats and vegetables, it's likely that it was the overall fat in the meal that impacted your stomach and this would have happened even if these were "good" foods that happened to be higher in fat.
