The idea of an air fryer, and there are several versions, is that hot air circulates around the food and cooks it.
This is supposedly an improvement over frying in deep fat.

Once you experience dry, crispy, air-heated food, and also experience the hard limits on cooking time of various vegetables, you'll figure out that eating air-fried food is a sacrifice too far for weight loss.

Several people posting on these message boards have described roasted vegetables sprayed with olive oil and sprinkled with garlic powder as quite tasty. Of course. Dry, crispy, food isn't delightful.

An air fryer is basically a convection oven. I just use my convection oven at home...makes great wings...

If you use the search function and search "air fryer" I know I saw a thread recently where someone was excited about how their air fryer was working out for them. The idea at least is that food comes out crispy without using oil. I don't have one, so I don't know if that's true or not :)

Boy, I'm out of touch. I thought we were talking about the old air popcorn popper gadgets. Folks I knew used to roast coffee beans with those. Had to bypass or disable a filter somehow though.

There was a thread recently about air fryers and the general consensus was they were fab. I was basically one of the minority who thought they were not a good buy (I have one gathering dust). If I want chips/fries, I want the real deal. Of course if its for stir fries they are pretty good for that, but a good wok is better.

Little oil is used (1 or 2 tablespoons) so although the potatoes might be crispy they are tasteless unless you add herbs and spices.

Fat does not make us fat so I'm sticking to my traditional home made chips in the deep fat fryer. Having them this way never hindered my weight loss.
