    I hope you find some people and some support! I'm a parent of a type 1 so I can see how hard it would be. There is a great group of people over at tudiabetes.org ...I find alot of support there.

    Yes, eating low carb helps with hypos. It may sound counter-intuitive, but consider there are 3 primary causes for lows - one of them is nearly entirely eliminated if you eat very low carb. The 2nd cause / risk is reduced after about eating low carb for awhile (benefits start in about 2 weeks and take about 8 weeks to fully transition). The 3rd is a matter of having proper basal rates... this is the hardest to control, but is not related to diet either way.
