Gaining Weight Fast. Is it bad?

Hello. I only want the helpful people to post please. Long post, lol.
I use this account to track my husband's gains. He was becoming too skinny seeing as his face was starting to sink in the cheek areas. So we decided to work on a weight gaining plan. Started around the beginning of January. It wasn't working well because it was kind of hard to get him to eat the extra calories and we were doing it wrong. Ice cream, pizza etc. He actually lost weight. Well I found the recipe feature on myfitnesspal so since i can track how many calories are in a homecooked meal, I started cooking again. Now over the last week and a half or so he has started to eat extra and I make him a few VERY high calorie shakes everyday as well. Well over the last week, he has gained 8 pounds. As in on Tuesday he was 132.4 and today he is 140.8. Is this healthy? Again, he is not eating junk food. I cook homemade meals for breakfast lunch and dinner and make shakes for snacks. I just want to know if we should slow down or if it's alright. He's 5'11" and we're trying to get to 160 or so to start. Meal breakdown:
Breakfast: 2 salmon croquettes-300 calories, hash browns in butter-510 calories, oatmeal-1099 calories(probably only finishes half of it though so 549.5), bagel with cream cheese-380 calories, glass of milk-150 calories. 1889.5 calories for breakfast.
Lunch: Turkey sandwiches-589 calories each or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches-410 calories esch (this is when he goes to work). Lunch actually varies but it is always at least 1000 calories.
Dinner: chicken and dumplings-2200 calories each serving I believe for the first couple of days and is currently beef pot roast-about 1600 a serving for three days. I'm making a seafood gratin for the weekend-haven't decided what I'm putting in it so have not made the recipe in myfitnesspal to see the calories.
Snacks: White Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheesecake Shake-2000 calories.
I know it's a lot of calories but we are hitting all usda goals, 10 oz of seafood a week, etc. I just don't want to wake up and he's dead.

Well, since men can usually only gain 0.5 to 1 lb of muscle a week in the best circumstances, I would say it's bad.
I would say it's also probably some water weight and the weight of the food in his system.
How many calories over his maintenance calories is he eating?1 -
The usda recommended about 5000 calories for his activity level he's like 1500-2000 above that. Thank you for the help. I will change up the diet.0

Sorry, maintenance should be 3700. He's eatimg way above that.0

When one consumes far more calories than they need and can efficiently store as fat, some non-measured excess can be excreted as feces.
I think it is unlikely that he has gained 8 lb in the last week unless he has a history of obesity and an abundant supply of ready, willing, and able fat cells.
Eating an excess of calories may very well have included an excess of salt and be accompanied by an excess of retained water.
At 5'11", which is my height also, he's very slim but not in immediate danger of death. Strong winds, maybe.1 -

Here is the question, do you just want him to get fat, particularly in the stomach region? Because if you do, that is what will happen with fast weight gain. If you want him to do it in a health manor, than slower weight gain with a good progressive overload lifting program will get him there.3 -

What Lemon said ^^. Gaining too quickly will mean excessive fat gain. That being said, I doubt the 8 lbs in the last week is all true gain. Probably a lot of water weight. To be real gain, it would have to have been 28,000 calories over maintenance.1
