Motivation buddies needed: who is on a journey to lose some serious weight?

Hi my name is Katie. I'm 40 years old and have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I'm 5'1 and 210 pounds. I have a goal of 140 lbs so I have 70 pounds to lose. I'm going to do a low carb approach. 18-30 carbs a day. I would love to do 18-20 carbs a day but I have FSGS a kidney disease. I have to watch my protein intake amounts (around 70-80 per day) so I have to allow more carbs for the veggies. I would love insight and love to add friends on a low carb/carb restricted journey or just on a weight lost journey. Any advice or encouragement is welcomed. I'm worry about failure. I have fallen off the wagon many times and weight gain has over taken over my scale. Being diabetic over 200 pounds and only 5'1 is scary to me. I have a 4 year old daughter. I have alot of life I need to be around for.

Welcome to MFP. Low carb can be a helpful tool for some users, but there's no magic bean about it being the key to weight loss. It happens to be the diet du jour right now in the media. Feel free to try it, but within the bounds set by your doctor since you've got diabetes.
Set your goals on MFP and eat the calories it gives you. With 70 pounds to lose, you could set a goal of 2 pounds per week but personally I find that hard to stick to and 0.5 - 1 pound is easier. Eat back some exercise calories. In terms of macros, pay attention to what your doctor says. There's nothing wrong with the carbs in vegetables, and most veggies are full of vitamins and fiber, which are good for you.1 -

Please feel free to add me. I try to do my best at logging meals and exercise regularly, and sending words of encouragement and nudges when folks need them to try and keep myself and you accountable. That's the best we can all do I think. I am coming off a major heart surgery 2 years ago, I'm 48 now, and have a big mental block toward exercising hard. I walk regularly but it's not enough. I'm also a salty/crunchy addict, so I really need to transform my diet. I am looking for support too, so for others reading this also, please feel free to add me. The fact that you are in here reading means you are like and want to improve.0
