Perfectly possible. 1-2lbs of that could be fat (depending how much you have to lose). My weight can fluctuate 4-6lbs in a day (and Im a healthy weight). When you change your diet you'll often lose water weight. And if youre eating a little less, youll have less food passing through you at any time, too. Your scales might be inaccurate, but if you step off and on again and they say the same...theyre probably reliable. Make sure you weigh in as close to the same conditions as possible every time, and dont be disheartened if it goes up next time (regression to the mean and all that)- just look for the general trend.3

its common, especially when first starting. im down 100+ pounds and it took something like 4 years. last week i lost 6 cause i was really stressed and depressed and simply not eating. i gained back 1 i think in my weigh in yesterday.
no biggie.
my daily weight fluctuations can be up to 5 pounds.
just dont expect a 6 pound loss every week or even often. or at all once that initial flood of water weight is gone2 -
It's common to lose alot of water weight when beginning. It's a nice boost. Keep on going3

When I started a lost a nice amount first week. I didn't put it on again, so I regard it as real weight loss. Just keep going and the rest should follow, even if it does do more slowly.2

I'm betting you cut down on your carbs when you started your "diet". Most people do, cut out bread etc. Even if you are not intentionally going low carb, you probably cut down from your normal diet.
Carbs get stored in you body as glycogen. To store a gram of glycogen, your body stores 3-4 grams of water. If you cut down on carbs, you reduce your glycogen stores (other fat stores may increase somewhat as an offset) and you reduce the water your body needs to hold onto. So you see a big drop initially. Some of it is fat but a lot is water.
The thing to understand from this is that the initial woosh is not all from your calorie deficit and once you steady out on the amount of carbs you are eating, your glycogen stores will level out at a new, lower level and your won't lose the big woosh of water and will return to a 1-2 lb per week loss.
Don't be discouraged by the lower rate loss rate. Understand it, revel in the initial loss but know it won't continue at that rate.
Congrats on the loss.6
