I know my end goal but how should i set short term goals? Daily? Weekly? Monthly seems too long for me.
What do you recommend works best to stay motivated?

Everyone is different. If you set weekly goals and don't hit it will it make you lose motivation? Then I wouldn't do it.
I weigh daily and the successes make me happy. When I don't have the scale go down or if it goes up I don't lose hope. I get even more determine.1 -
I have a weekly calorie goal that i focus on each month.1

Motivation is fleeting. Don't rely on it to reach your goals. Instead devise a plan and follow it. No motivation required.3

My only goals are to get to a healthy weight and eat healthily. I don't set weekly or monthly goals.2

This^^! Don't waste time and energy worrying about motivation. Decide what is important to you. Do it. Simple.2 -
My goals are to follow my training plan and meet my calorie intake (average over the week). I can control those. If I meet those goals, the results (weight loss, measurements, assorted fitness/strength/race times/etc.) will happen.2

I set small weight goals. Example I want to be in the 170’s by Valentine’s Day (at 184 now). However, to not get overwhelmed I take it a week at a time. My weekly goal is to log everyday and stay under my calories at least 6 of the 7. I allow myself one meal to indulge on (within reason) a week. So far I’ve lost 11 pounds.

I do the same dates every year, the dates are meaningful to me, and spread out enough to make progress):
April 3 - my birthday (2018 goal 130#)
July 4 - usually in swimsuit in front of lots of people (2018 goal 127#)
Oct 31 - prelude to candy, Thanksgiving, etc (2018 goal 125#)
Dec 31 - year end (2018 goal 125)
I keep this in my notes at the bottom of my diary so I see it every day.3 -
I'm in maintenance now, and I have had several shifts in focus, beliefs and routines since I joined MFP in 2013. This is how I think now:
I think you are talking about weightloss goals? I'm all for having a goal weight, and a realistic expectation of when one should be able to reach it, but I would let my daily focus be on behavior. That's actually something that motivates me, because my eating and exercise habits are great! I eat food I love for every meal, but portion it out appropriately. I don't do any planned exercise, but I move purpusefully every day, to get some work done, errrands, or just for fun. Weighing daily, but keeping calm and use the trend as a guide for behavior adjustments, is sorta motivating. What binds this together, is honing shopping and cooking and sleeping habits, and attitudes like an open mind, curiosity, flexibility, gratitude and patience.1
