I'm 5'10 240lbs and I need help. I was told about this site from a good friend of mine who lost some good amount of weight. Anyhow, I have already lost 4 lbs but that's it. What do I do? I hit the treadmill for 50 minutes, the bike for 20, weigh machines for 10 and occasional leisure swimming. I follow my calories but I have yet to lose weight. I have been exercising since early June when I hit the scales at 244. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Here is the bulk of the advice I have been give, all summed up!
Vary the activities, increase the reps, and/or increase intensities. You hit plateaus where your body becomes used to the exercise. Eat varying amounts of your exercise calories each day, depending on hunger levels. Watch sodium intake and drink plenty of water, as you might be holding water weight.0 -
Use a little less cardio and use more weight training. Also, when you are on the treadmill, try to use interval training. Do 1 minute hard jog and 1 minutes slow for first 20 minutes or so. When you are exhausted, go steady. Do not eat all your workout calories. Try to keep them to half. Also, keep track of your protein and sodium intakes.

4 pounds in a month is AMAZING! Remember this a really slow process and it takes time. Losing it slowly helps it stay off. I started this program in January and I have lost around 4 pounds every month since I started. It sounds like you are doing great! Just keep it up, you will get there! My advise would be increase the intesity of your work outs. Your body is starting to adjust to what is happening so you need to jump start it again. Keep your body thinking! Good Luck!!0

I would also make sure you are accurately counting your calories. Most people under report what they actually ate. Use an inexpensive kitchen scale and prepare food yourself when even possible to make sure you know EXACTLY what is in it.
I've also had a lot of success using interval training or circuit training. It takes less time for the same results. For example, I would do 20 lunges then 20 jumping jacks then 20 crunches and repeat 3 times without taking a break. The combinations are endless!
Keep mixing it up and pushing yourself and even though the progress feels slow it will add up quickly.

Thank you for all your advice! I have cut soda out from 5 days a week to maybe 1 a week. I used to be a Starbucks freak but now that has stopped since we just moved to a new state that has just 1 starbucks. I am all about counting calories and I use MFP to the fullest. I will definately try the changes to my work outs. Once again, I am thankful for your responses and tips.0
