Weight loss supplements

I think they would be called supplements.
My Dr. Prescribed me phentermine and diethylproprion. I'm counting my calories. I'm doing little to light exercise. Only because i have chronic pain from a couple auto immune diseases. But I'm steadily losing the last couple of weeks so I'm pleased.
I only just started taking the supplements. So i couldn't tell you how well they work yet. But wondered if any of you have tried them and what your results were/ are.

Your doctor would have reasons why he prescribed them, but you really don't need supplements for weight loss. Actually, a quick Google search shows they're both appetite suppressants, which you won't need if you have the will power to monitor and control your own eating. Less Calories In, and more Calories Out should create the Calorie Deficit that's needed for you to lose weight.1

Is this the one that made someone *kitten* all over their partner in bed?3

They are definitely not supplements...supplements would be vitamins and the like.
Is that a combined tablet or two separate tablets? If separate that's a double dose of appetite suppressant.
You have been steadily losing weight without them, perhaps wait and see how you go with weight loss with out them.
Read these for the possible side effects:
https://www.drugs.com/phentermine.html
https://www.drugs.com/cdi/diethylpropion-tablets.html
If you do take them, start working on plans now for what you are going to do when you stop taking them and your appetite returns with a vengence. How do you plan to manage your appetite in the future without them?

Ok so they are appetite suppressants. Not a bad thing for me. Its just to kick start my weight loss so i don't get discouraged. Its working so far. I'm still eating, just have more portion control. I'm losing weight as well. I'm going to check out a gym today with a friend. So soon i may be slowly adding some treadmill walking and cycling.7

Keep in mind that when you stop taking the appetite suppressing drugs, your appetite will return with a vengeance and you'll really need to work hard to maintain your new weight.10

Must be a US thing.....pretty sure doctors in the uk don't prescribe speed for weight loss. Best I got was an offer of 12 weeks of w.w
I would be suing said doctor though if they claimed it was a "supplement" instead of a potentially dangerous drug
In the UK they had a weight loss pill that was recalled due to the alarming upswing in suicidal thoughts in patients
They then swapped to the oh so fun orlistat that makes you frat out molten lava orange diaoreah
Ahhh fun times, just 2 of the treatments my gp insisted I needed back when I was a lot younger, the last suggestion of theirs I listened to was when they insisted I needed to be on a vlcd, that was a fun 4 months followed by 6 months of feeling like *kitten* on a stick while the gp tried to correct deficiencies and treat the chest infection that wouldn't leave my lungs alone
When they try to give me advice now I just nod smile and do my own thing2 -
I took phentermine for around 3 months due to my doctor prescribing it to me. I didn't question it, just trusted him. They're supposed to suppress your appetite.
As someone that has lost a drastic amount of weight quickly based on calories alone and has also done a slower weight-loss journey due to healthy changes, I do not recommend phentermine! Changing diet alone was the best decision I made. Phentermine had some not so great side effects. I could never sleep.6 -
They are definitely not supplements, they are prescription medication, with potentially significant side effects. I am concerned that your Doctor downplayed them so much you that you thought they were supplements. He really ought to have explained them, and they potential effects, to you in detail.6

Been on them for 5 days. Working, as far as i can tell. I'm still eating so i see no problem. No adverse side effects that i can see. Calories are restricted, so I'm losing weight. I'm not real worried about the appetite returning.9

If you were having issues with appetite control they help, but they will be less effective the longer you take them. If you were doing fine without them I'd stay away.6

I’ve used them for a while but the only thing I get from them is no sleep and dry mouth. I don’t loose any weight unless I’m on a strict diet even when taking the pill, so I stopped taking it and continued the diet alone, getting same weight loss results with or without the pill.6

This is a habit forming drug. Do not take drugs like this without a medical need. Just diet. You don't need an appetite suppressant. You're hindering your ability to maintain your weight in the long run, anyway.10

Phentermine is no joke. You’ll be running around like never before. Your house will be cleaner than it was brand new. I have taken this before. You never get hungry. They scared me so I stopped. It’s like you are on cocaine or something.4

Still going. Weight loss has evened out. It gives me a boost of energy. I'm busy doing things, ado it just helps a bit. I'm still eating so I'm getting my calories.3

I actually took prescribed Phentramine for over a year. Please, PLEASE- monitor your side effects and be under constant watch by your doctor. This is a powerful drug NOT supplement.
It’s more than dry mouth, it’s like 6 cups of coffee at once. Gradually take these pills if you deem it necessary on certain days. Your body will become tolerant and you’ll need to increase your intake. That’s only a portion of the negative impact of it. Insomnia, jitters, high blood pressure, anxiety, etc.
Take half the pill before 12pm if you need to. Make sure you don’t take an entire pill after 2pm or I can assure you that you will have sleeping issues.

I have been sleeping alright. I take one pull in the morning. Then the other one before lunch. Thats it.0

You should be. What is your reasoning behind thinking it just won't be an issue? You can't take these meds forever.3 -

No, it's this..........Diethylpropion is an appetite suppressant similar to an amphetamine. Diethylpropion stimulates your central nervous system (nerves and brain), which increases your heart rate and blood pressure and decreases your appetite.
OP - many years ago I took prescription weight loss drugs (amphetamines). I did lose weight, but would never do that again. Why? Because weight loss is just the first step.
I can lose weight with or without drugs......I have proven that (a couple times). But the problems is drugs don't change my behavior. I'm fat because of my behavior.
You are measuring & logging calories. You are learning about your eating habits. THAT is going to help you maintain, THAT is going to help change behavior. The drugs are almost insignificant compared to that.5 -
Well, if you’re prescribed this to “jump start “ your weight loss, ask your doctor when you should wean off it. Maybe the intent is to use it for two months or so? Because a jump start is intended to be a short term thing!0

I never got the running around thing with phentermine due to the couple hours of broken sleep i got every night. The lack of sleep and walking around in a zombie state over rid any extra energy i might of got with that drug. It was a hellish experience, and something i will never, ever repeat again!0 -

It's only for 3 months.1 -

Because i already log my food and calories and am aware of what i am putting in my body. I'm only going to be on them for 3 months. Its not long term. Its just a jump start, because it is difficult for me to exercise due to my chronic illnesses. I am a part of a gym now, but have to limit what i do.2 -

I asked her.0 -
As long as you are logging your food, you should do great. I am not familiar with Diethylpropion, but I have done really well on Phentermine. After awhile, you'll find it curbs your appetite a bit, and you won't have any side effects. For me, it just helps me not overeat after dinner. I got as thin as I look in that picture! That's from 4 years ago. I have to log my food, and I stopped doing it, stopped exercising, and started eating a lot of junk food. That picture is my inspiration to get thin again.0
