Need to Lose Almost a Whole Person Due to Mental Health Meds

Hello. I am back, again. I “started over” about two years ago for the umpteenth time and here I am again. I was always bigger. However, many different mental health meds caused me to be bigger on a larger scale. Psychiatrists tried to tell me mental stability was more important, but the added depression and physical impossibility to do many things exacerbated my mental instability. Now I am trying again.

Since Spring of 2014, I have stayed between 360 and 300 pounds. It is most painful and publicly embarrassing some of the things I have experienced due to my size. I was a binge eater before it was officially considered an eating disorder. As early as 8 years old, I can remember regularly eating enough to bloat my stomach to capacity to try and deal with emotions. And then other days, I would just deny myself anything to eat. It was a viscous cycle and growing up in extreme poverty didn’t help. Unhealthy foods have always been cheaper and always what’s been in my house. I buy fruits and vegetables in an effort to change, but end up throwing spoiled food away often. So I had stopped buying it altogether.

For the first time in over a year, there are fruits and vegetables in my fridge. I had been told by a friend that what is called the military diet was an accurate measure of what someone should eat. I’d trust her with my life, so I didn’t think much about it. I found out later it was a fad diet. I had never actually done it, but have been feeling so desperate. I posted about it yesterday and people gave me great feedback that helped me change my mind about doing it. I went to post that I had changed my mind only to find the discussion had been locked. It was determined to have been a violation of policy. I was and am mortified. It was never meant to be a positive advertisement! I can’t be banned from this program. I need to have a place where I can track progress, touch base with folks and really learn how to lose this weight without taking out a loan to pay for it.

Anyway, I am tired and scared. In my 20s, I lost and gained weight (massive amounts) three different times. Then my body just stopped responding to my efforts. But I have to try again. I have to keep trying because this is my life literally hanging in the balance. I am in so much pain and deal with so many obstacles. I just need to start slowly and work my way up. But I have always been a “jump all in” type of person... so hopefully by plugging in here, I can do something different.

Have a great day!

    Welcome,

I am sorry you have had to go through all of these struggles. It is fine to take things one step at a time. I started with small changes that alone didn't make a big difference, but one I got a few added together I was able to stick to my plan and find success. Just make sure to set realistic goals and only make changes you can stick to long term so you set yourself up to be able to break the yoyo cycle. If you need help logging or setting goals I think these two posts have lots of great tips in them:

    http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1234699/logging-accurately-step-by-step-guide/p1

    http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants/p1

The first covers accurate logging and some of the tools in MFP to help you make things easier. The second discusses caloric needs and setting goals. These two posts completely changed my MFP experience and helped me be much more successful, so I hope they do the same for you.

    ~Best wishes on your journey

Thank you so much!! I just got time to read the two posts and notice they both have their own suggested links to read. So, it gives me a LOT to chew on - pun intended. Your reply was/is much appreciated!
