Hi, I'm 83, overweight and want to lose weight. Seemed to plateaued at a loss of 14lb and can't keep it going. Trying to keep calories under 1300 but not working. I know, move more but at 83 movement is SLOW and seldom, lol. Any other old farts have the same problem. Louie, Louie

Welcome to MFP. It is working, but you have to do it right, and measure your results correctly. First, don't try to go below 1500. Instead, log correctly and hit your target every day. Then, be patient. Weigh yourself regularly and look at the trend over several weeks. You can expect to lose up to 1% of your body weight per week, on average, if and only if these parameters are present: Obesity, optimal calorie target, perfect food logging, consistent sticking to target.

You are not alone on the "slow and seldom" train! But good for you for wanting to speed it up. I'm over 70 and have just the same problem. I'm slow, and moving usually hurts somewhere, partly because of injuries and surgeries, but mostly it's the old "use it or lose it" issue. I'm working on just keeping going, and finding that it does get easier. The bits that hurt last month don't hurt this month, since I've kept using them. I've also found that it helps to have a fitness tracker that will count your steps and remind you to get up and move. I use an Apple watch and iPhone, but there are lots of others. My goal is to be strong and healthy enough to be able to do what I want, when I want, without having to think "can I make it?" Weight lost so far is about the same as yours, and I get frustrated with how long it takes, but increased physical mobility is just as important to me. Don't give up!

Thanks for the info and kind encouragement. I do notice with weight loss it is easier to get out of my recliner. ha
