I prelog my glass of wine. That way I stick to my plan and also have a reasonable amount of wine.6

Thank you for the tips0

I'm in! I usually only drink wine on the weekends, but I tend to overdo it. It just doesn't go with my whole "trying to be healthy".1

Excellent!!! Should we aim to have no wine for one month??3
-
I've put down the alcohol for now. No drinking this week. I drank beer, malt liquor, and liquor, rarely wine.2

I put it down years ago. If your intention is to quit completely, I'll tell you that it gets a lot easier - but it takes a bit of time for your body to heal.
It's a lot easier if it is a permanent thing. I did a few 30-days-at-a-time quits, and really I would have been better off just quitting completely. It's what I wanted, but it seemed easier to do life without quitting completely...what a lie that was.
Life is so much better for me without alcohol.
Good luck, whatever your intentions.5 -

I too drink far too much wine. I make sure I log it just so I know how much I am drinking Even just the act of logging it has helped me be aware and cut back.3

Thank you for your advice0

I stopped bringing it into the house. My rule is I can drink wine when I'm out at a restaurant, but don't need it tempting me at home. Too many calories and I sleep horribly when I drink it!1

Great tip!! Thanks!!0

I sleep horribly too.....thats why its a once a month thing. 5oz for 125 cal. Im stingy cause I would rather eat than drink.
Life is all about tradeoffs!3 -
Alcohol is a challenge of mine too. I’m a binge drinker. Hardly ever have a drink until I go out and then it’s a six pack or more. Big goal to cut it out, manage the social situation and keep the weight off!4

Yes managing social situations is tough... trying to meet you your own goals without appearing like you’re judging others for their choices...1

I love my wine; I'm now limiting it to weekends and actually weigh it so that I don't have more than a true 5 oz glass. I'll allow myself a second if the calories are in check- and I've eaten healthy foods. If I've eaten "junk", no wine- its a tradeoff. I'm in charge.1

Social situations are not as tough as you think - I stopped drinking alcohol 25 years ago - no body thinks it's weird that I have coffee or juice while they drink - people really don't care about that. - Eastcoast Jim2 -
You can do it!! It's def helpful if you have support. I'm on day 23 without a drink and I was a heavy binge drinker. I have not had any physical withdrawals and it FEELs AMAZING.
Things that happened so far - my skin is not as dry and itchy. My face is not as red, my eyes are whiter, my hair is softer and it also seems to be growing a bit more around my forehead, my sleep is deeper, my anxiety is lower, my workouts are stronger, my head is clearer at work, my attitude is more positive and I am able to think about larger goals instead of fixating on the day. It's really such a positive experience.
I am really only able to do this because I have support. I have binge drinking friends and I have safe and healthy friends. I'm spending a LOT of time with those healthy ones and staying away (temporarily) from the bingers. I know others have experienced loneliness on this journey and I hope you have lots of healthy people in your life to keep you busy, positive and feeling loved.
Wishing you all the best and PM me if you need a buddy!6 -

I'd contend that wine may not be the problem.
As a habit, I drink exactly one beer, which is the first thing I do when I arrive home from the office. It's a relaxation thing; I'm happy to drink one beer, then go about the rest of my evening.
At the bar (when I go there, which isn't often), I drink exactly one beer, then change up to (diet) soda. Offering friends the excuse that 'I'm driving' usually does it, and if doesn't, then f--- them.
If your problem is a clear inability--despite your best efforts--to stop at one, then, as with the biblical 'arm that causes you to sin', cut off the alcohol completely.
Addition: To summarize, I suppose you could say that if you're such a drinker who drinks for the 'effect' (as opposed to the taste)--and whereas one of those effects is poor judgment--it would be wise to quit alcohol altogether.0 -
Thanks everyone for your supportive comments and advice. The reason I find it hard to stop at one is because I desire the relaxation effect. The last year I’ve been through a divorce with kids involved and it’s been very stressful and I’ve used it to cope. Which I realize is not healthy. I’m on day 21 now of no alcohol and I will strive to keep going… Thank you again everyone5

Yep, that's true - once there was this girl who got upset that I didn't have shots with everyone else, but she was drunk. Eastcoast Jim0
