YAY to eating

Just wanted to share with anyone who's been following a harsh 1200cal diet, exercising like a demon and hit the plateau. I too was on a strict 1200, exercising 5/6 times a week and lost until I reached close to my goal where I seemed to hit a plateau, (gutted as I now seemed to be starving for nothing).
I followed my TDEE instead and increased my cals to 1600, then 1800, sometimes more. In fact I have stopped calorie counting and just guess now but definitely eating more and what I like. I also dropped my exercise to 3 times a week and running instead of resistance and workout dvds and hey presto started to loose again. Its dropping very slow this time only 2/4 llb over a couple of months but the great thing is the inch loss is definitely increasing and I look slimmer, and its staying off!
Only mention because although I haven't been on here for months the same topic of the 1200 cals is still in debate. It worked initially for me, but difficult to maintain, also one hell of a hungry grouch. I wish i'd followed my TDEE from beginning, far more achievably.
DON'T be afraid to eat more
Scales don't always motivate ( try just weighing every few weeks)
Tape measurements a great indicator of how you doing (first thing in morning)
Good luck

Thank you! you have inspired me again. I too have been struggling with the 1200 calorie diet. I beat myself up 7 days a week in a gym for 60-90 minutes with absolutely no wt loss and even a few lbs gain. I have been rolling the TDEE theory over and over in my head too and you have inspired me to in fact eat more and stop obsessing over the damn scale.!0

I bottom out on losing right around 165 everytime but now that I raised up my calories to 1700 I eat food real food that I like and tastes good. In the last 6 weeks to a month I have I have dropped 8 lbs! I'm not even losing slowly at this point. It's like my body is saying thank you for feeding me this is your reward!!!!0

I read about people doing the 1,200 calories and I just can't fathom how they do it and aren't starving. I'm always happy to hear about people who eat a realistic amount of calories and have success. Its motivating to me. 1,200 just discourages me right now!0
