A Lightweight Heavyweight

I have read so much info on MFP about the benefits of heavy lifting and weight loss-calories burned post workout/decrease in loose skin etc.- that I decided to give it a try. I have an old knee injury that limits my range of motion, so I have been using 10lb free weights during my workouts with increased reps to strengthen the area before I go heavier. Problem is, I have reinjured the knee (jogging), and anything I do now causes pain. Squats hurt-even before the snafu-but I want to lift. Help!

I highly suggest you consult a doctor. He will be able to tell you what you can and cannot do.
Physio might also be a good option, it could help rehabilitate your injured knee!

In the mean time, stay away from exercises that hurt or could make it worst

I agree with the Physio. My boss had trouble with his back, and has seen a big improvement with just a month of physical therapy appointments. They will know what exercises will hurt your knee and which exercises with help rehabilitate it.

I also have a bum knee. I can't do squats, but have found that swiss ball squats work well as a substitute:

But of course consult a physio.

    Ice, elevate and ibuprofen.

How long has it been hurting?

I was doing ok until a couple of days ago. I know my limitations, so, I don't over do it with squats. I do the ice/elevation/motrin thing now. I was just trying to strengthen my thighs to take some of the pressure off of my knees.
