I want to know more about the pre workout supplements, please. I think i need something. By the time i get home from working which involves a lot of driving and concentration, I am wiped and have to push myself really really hard to muster up energy to work out. Will pre wo supps help? If so which one's do u suggest? Thanks!

A caffeine pill or some C4 works for me.

Are you struggling with actual energy or just the motivation?

I struggle with motivation, but once I get going, I'm fine.

I too am wondering if you are eating enough - are you eating back your exercise calories? How many pounds do you have to lose total and what's your weekly weight loss goal set to?

tried c4 for a while. that stuff is crazy and not at all good for you. research it. some people go with coffee or a coke. i usually found that a decent playlist was enough for me. or a buddy. or a cutie at the gym i was trying to impress.

More lack of energy than motivation. I have the motivation, just feel wiped. Yes i seem to be eating my exercise calories. I eat mostly healthy except for consuming large amounts of sugar and milk, which i stopped 2 days ago, maybe that is contributing to my lack of energy, we'll see.

If you're meeting your calorie goals feeling wiped shouldn't be an issue. Milk also is a pretty decent protein source. What's your calorie goal for the day? Sometimes people end up too low for themselves because they're going for too extreme of a deficit, that could affect energy levels. I can understand cutting down sugar but why the milk?

This probably isn't the best suggestion, but I take something called Lit by Beyond Raw. It's mostly caffeine, but contains other things that just seems to pump me up. Only 10 calories and 3g of carbs so it works for my diet. But, I also do 6 miles a day and then swim shortly after. The only side effect is this tingling feeling you get from the increased blood flow throughout your body (my wife describes it as itching).

Coffee is good - define "work out" If you are lifting weights it is good to have eaten protein/ carb recently , maybe 1-2-3 hrs . have a mid afternoon shack or eat on the way home, or it in a drink - Eastcoast Jim

Any one that "gives you energy" has a healthy dose of caffeine. Probably won't sleep well if you take it before an after work workout then plan to go to bed a few hours later.

I personally like a pre-workout. Even if I get my calories in. Teaching all day, 2.5 hours of commuting in NYC and shlepping around all my crap and then throwing 200+ pounds on my back before I even get to bench press, or deadlift, and then do an upper or lower hypertrophy session. Gets me going. Can I do it without? Sure. Would I rather have it? Yes.

That "tingling/itching" is a common side effect of Beta-Alanine, which many PWO drinks are liberally dosed with.

I have the same issue. I head out in the morning at 7, work my 9-5, home at 6. By the time dinner is cooked and eaten, kids are bathed and ready for bed, dishes are done and house is clean it’s usually 8:00pm. By that time I usually just want to sit with a cup of coffee and watch the news! I started taking C4 Ripped. It doesn’t make me itchy, tingly, or give me jitters like some pre workouts can. Just gives enough of a boost to get me in my basement and workout for an hour with focus and intensity!

Also, Citrulline Malate causes this and many also use that, although highly under dosed.

A preworkout isn't going to do a lot for you because you really just need a stimulant, or better yet, more sleep by the sounds of it. A preworkout has two or three main properties depending on the type. They basically have a strong stimulant, ingredients that allow you to increase workload, and ingredients to increase that feeling of a pump. The only thing you really want is the stimulant affect but that's caffeine so just get some cheap caffeine pills and take 200mg or drink a cup of strong coffee.

If you lack energy then why not have dinner first and then work out? None of the supplements give me the actual energy (not just an elevated heart rate such as coffein does) I need for a good workout. Hence I always do all my workouts after dinner.
