Prozac

Anyone experience significant weight loss or gain with prozac? I was recently switched to it by my physician and Im concerned about weight gain. I was on welbutrin which is the least likely to cause weight gain. I have about 10 to lose that's proven to be very difficult to get off even while doing orangetheory 4-5 times a week over the past 5 months. I've been on prozac about 2 weeks now.

Hi, i came off of medication some time ago as side affects bothered me more than depression and anxiety. I was on a generic version of Prozac for a year. I’m not a physician, however regular use of magnesium oil has been a real boon. Sleepless nights are gone and days are generally calm and relaxed. Two of the many health benefits of this supplementation.

I know it doesn’t specify answer your enquiry but just thought i would share.

    Best wishes on your goals

I've taken generic Prozac for years, after two incredibly scary bouts with postpartum depression. It keeps me "even." It has never impacted my weight, either good or bad. I was taking something else, and of course, this was a cheaper alternative, so my new insurance company about 10 years ago made me switch drugs. Turns out I ended up liking generic Prozac better! And you can drink alcohol while on it.

thank you for the responses! It's the generic form of it. I'm hoping it doesn't impact my weight and does what it's supposed to do. I will definitely research the magnesium. I've heard it's good for a lot of things.

Generic version prescribed due to history of bulimia. 80 mg. I do have several side effects. I am about 10 pounds heavier, but it has helped me to greatly reduce starve binge purge cycle.

Please don't promote "homeopathic" remedies for depression. If she needs Prozac, she needs Prozac, not some sort of oil.
Are YOU a physician? Read my post again.
I was prescribed something which is handed out like candy in this country. A ‘quick’ fix because no physician has the time/inclination to follow through when a patient presents with anxiety and depression.

I and millions of others can testify to the benefits of magnesium supplements. In this instance reference is made only to its calming and better sleep quality properties. If you sir/madam take SSRi meds and want to stay there then do so. However don’t try and shoot someone down that has been there and only wishes to pass on the benefits of their experience.
    Troll.

    EXTREME carb cravings.

I have that to an extent to, but Im not sure if its related. Doesnt carbs like oatmeal directly positively affect the amount of serotonin in the brain anyhow? I dont know. I hate it sometimes. Prozac seems to affect my ability to strengthen resolve, (i.e. be obsessive) and be able to diet harder or more faithfully. Oh, but thats why Im on it anyhow. See post above.

@bama_belle78 I used to sell pharmaceuticals in the SSRI/SNRI categories (legally, professionally!). Of all the SSRI options, Prozac had the highest incidence of weight loss, which I recall being somewhere between 15%-20% of people. I am NOT a medical doctor, so if you are concerned about the potential side effects of your prescribed medication, your physician is certainly the proper person to speak to.
