Freaking out over scale!

About a week or ten days ago I weighed myself and I was about 135lbs (which was expected because this is about how much I weight these days). However today I stepped on the scale and I was 140lbs and I was shocked! During this period, there had been days when I ate over the amount of calories that I wanted(I aim for 1200kcal and I ended up eating about 1600) but there had been also days when I ate exactly that. I calculated the average amount of calories that I ate during this period , since there were some fluctuations, and the result was about 1350 calories/day. This is so discouraging when you're trying to lose weight!! (btw I'm a 5'6 female)

There’s no reason to freak out. This happens to everyone because weight loss isn’t linear. If you enjoyed a meal or two out, began or changed your exercise routine, or are nearing TOM then you’re retaining water weight. To have gained five pounds of fat in that time you would have to eat 17,500 calories over maintenance.
Also, being that you’re already at a healthy weight and don’t have much to lose that you lower your goal to half a pound a week. This should cut down on overeating. But you’re also going to have to be as accurate as possible in your logging.3 -
@malibu927 what is TOM exactly? Sorry if I'm kind of a noob and thanks for replying. The thing is I've also been feeling kind of bigger lately and my clothes feel just a little tight and that's why I think the scale might be right. Could hormones play a role in this? Because I'm also a week late in my menstruation(sorry TMI)0

"Time of month/time of the month"
I thought it meant "theory of mind" for a long time and couldn't understand!! Ahah.
Don't sweat it, you won't have gained fat eating 1350/day. Weight fluctuates a lot, especially for women (for reasons you suggest and have already been mentioned). Obviously if you are usually very regular then you should do a pregnancy test if that's possible, too. If you aren't pregnant, then undereating can affect your cycle. If this is the case, you must start eating more, because the long term consequences of undereating are much worse than losing weight a bit more slowly...4 -
