Age 22 weight about 95 kilos and height 150cm light exercise everyday eating 1800 calories and exercising an hour a day can I lose weight doing this as I read on the web that you need to burn 2,300 calories a day to lose 1 pound a week eating 1800 calories is this true? as it sounds like a lot of calories to burn in one day.

what you read was completely wrong.

you need to burn 3500 cals (approx) to lose 1lb per week, which usually is a 500 cal reduction per day.

The 1800 that MFP gives you includes that 500 cal deficit.

you can definitely lose weight following the guidelines MFP has given you. As long as you remember to log everything that you eat and any calorific drinks. If it's not working you are missing something.

Your body burns calories just by being alive to maintain it's normal everyday functions-this is your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate). This is the majority of calories you will burn through in a day.

Added to that are your daily activities which will be a much smaller proportion-this is called your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure). Anything you eat under this will be your 'deficit'

As 1lb is equivalent to 3500 calories you need to create a deficit of 500 calories/day to lose 1lb/week so you are correct that if your TDEE is 2300 and you are eating 1800 you will lose 1lb/week. I've plugged your stats into a calculator and this looks about right for you so you're off to a great start.

I think you may be concerned that you need to burn 2300 through exercise to get to those numbers when actually about 1600-1700 of the 2300 figure will be your BMR.

The main thing here is that you need to be very honest about the amount of exercise you are doing. You can't 'double count' if the calories are already accounted for in your deficit (so don't work out your allowance based on 7 days activity then allow yourself extra becasuse you've worked out that day-it's already been counted! Also bear in mind that exercise calories can be overly generous so try not to go through them all where possible-30-50% would be my advise.

You seem to be doing your research so you're doing great and I hope that's been a little helpful for you. Good luck!
