Donating plasma while doing low carb is a bad idea... Or is it?

How low is too low? I was doing 33 carbs a day, and a ton of protein. I had very little sugar, and not a ton of fat. I went in to donate plasma, and I almost passed out at the very end. Could this be a reason? I had plenty of water before I went in, ate chicken and broccoli 2 hours prior... And it was just ugly.

Ready? And.... Go!

I usually do a bag of platelets and a bag of plasma, usually no problem. One time I almost went down when I got up from the chair and was lightheaded for several minutes. The nurses insisted I must've not eaten enough, though I felt like I ate just like I always have. I used to always get lightheaded when I donated whole blood and assumed it was the fluid loss.

Personally I try to eat a meal right before I leave to go to the donation place. 2 hours prior might be too long. I don't see why low carb would make a difference, but I'm not a medical pro and don't eat low carb.

The only time I tried to donate while low carb I got extremely lightheaded. Which reminds me, I should donate again soon... (no longer low carb)

  • If its too fatty they won't want it.

Lol what? I don't think it sucks out fast at the same time. If it did, I'd pay them!

I have been told in the past to try not to eat a very fatty meal the night before donating because it might make your plasma unusable, now that I think about it. I haven't heard it in ages though. I naturally tend to eat lower fat anyway so I never gave it much thought!
