Hi everyone. I'm new to this and I need advice on how to stick this thing out for the long term. I am about 100 pounds above my target weight. I know the issues that being overweight has caused for me, including high blood pressure which has put me on medication, and sleep apnea which has caused me to sleep with a machine. I miss the way I was when I was thin and I want that back, but I also know how difficult it is for me to say no to coke and starbucks, and how rarely I eat healthy. What are some methods that those of you who have been here a while and have been successful use to break the negative cycles? Thanks!

What works for me is just counting calories. I do have the occasional treat but I make it fit calorie wise into my day. I also do some sort of exercise everyday. You can do this too!

I agree, use your MFP diary to keep your self accountable! Don’t deprive yourself, it will lead to bingeing or falling off your diet all together. By keeping your diary accurate you can allow yourself those indulgences as long as you get some exercise in to work it off. I’ve been trying to lose weight for 6 or 7 years now. I’ve always been very demanding on myself. This time I chose a laid back, stress free approach and I’ve lost 37lbs in 19 weeks. If I can do it, anyone can, because I love food. Wish you the best!
