Fasted morning cardio

Do any of you do fasted cardio first thing in the morning? Is it a hoax that you will burn more fat since your body has nothing else to eat away at before having breakfast? I have been doing it the last two weeks and the results have been good but I do have a lot to loose which obviously impacts it

I do it every day. Have no idea if it burns more fat...

Do what works best for your appetite and schedule. Consistency at anything will burn more fat than a program you don't stick with for the long haul.

I prefer to eat my calories later in the day, so I run and lift on “E” every morning. I prefer it that way, but have no idea if it makes a lick of difference, I also like the feeling of hot, black coffee hitting my empty stomach after my workout. So maybe I’m just weird.

The only time fasted cardio has ever done anything for me in when getting extremely lean with the assistance of Yohimbine. Y’s usefulness is completely shut down in the presence of even small amounts of insulin above baseline for most, so even typical “fasted” tactics like BCAAs will render the whole thing pointless.

I do fasted cardio in the mornings just because if I stop to eat my brain will decide it can't be bothered with the cardio bit. The only way to get me out for an early morning run is to just do it before I've figured out what's happening, and then I'm too far from home and have to run back.

Short runs are fine fasted, but anything more than about 40 minutes and my run suffers.

I have know idea if it is better scientifically, there's evidence from both camps. For me, fasted cardio works fine for the reasons above. Does it help me lose weight? no, how much I eat helps me lose weight.

Even if it did burn more fat (which it doesn't) it would have no impact on fat loss as that is a function of energy balance (expending more than you eat) The fuel source is of importance to endurance athlete as even relatively slim people have lots of energy available in fat stores.

While there have been studies that have tried to isolate fasted cardio, in my opinion, this hasn't been studied enough to put together the whole thing. If we consider fasted cardio, intermittent fasting, and the ketogenic diet taken together, I do think there is a workable theory where you could accelerate fat burning.

Think of it as sugar in sugar out, not calories in calories out. I've seen it myself and with several of my clients. Higher insulin in the morning along with cardio (when you're in ketosis) should lead to fat burning, especially when it is long, slow cardio. Avoiding carbs in the morning should have a similar effect. Combining all of them works in cases I've seen. Hopefully, there will be more studies on this.

All the credible evidence I've seen says the opposite (see above linked research review by James Krieger, for starters). And also that substrate utilization during exercise, while relevant to workout performance, is irrelevant to weight loss.

That’s because that’s the only credible evidence there is. Since the idea of the “fat burning zone” was presented, there has been close to 25 years of research to refute it (much of which wasn’t even needed since the concept is not supported by basic physiology).

Fasted cardio is pretty much all I do, but only because I have a super sensitive stomach and tend to puke if I eat before I run, or exercise.

Ay, bro. I ain't no scientist and my research is minimal, but at the end of the day if its body fat you're trying to lose... you just gotta be at a caloric deficit. Eat breakfast or don't eat breakfast. Do what works for you, my guy. Just keep to it, stay on track, and watch your eating habits.

I do fasted cardio almost everyday, and its been working for me. Lost 8 lbs in about a week, but it wasn't entirely the fasted cardio that did it. Everything requires consistency.
