Will two days of no food cause muscle loss and/or lower my metabolism?

Am having a major surgery soon and have been instructed not to have anything but water 48 hours prior. Not even liquid calories. I regularly exercise, alternating between cardio and weights. What does this mean for my muscle and metabolism?

It means nothing. You'll feel hungry, that's all.4

You should be fine.
It takes a while for that to happen. 1-2 days shouldn't cause any serious problems.1 -
You won’t be able to keep up your exercise routine in a fasted state. I tried to keep up my walking on the first day of a liquid diet and I nearly fainted.
I suggest you take a holiday from your fitness routine for those 48 hours and baby yourself. They’ll be bugging you enough to get moving after surgery to facilitate healing. Doctor’s orders.
After surgery I counted the days when I could start walking again. It was glorious, and recovery wasn’t that bad.4 -
Nope - people routinely do 48-72 hour fasts with no lasting ill effects. You will get hungry and you will probably have very low energy but no permanent effects.3
