Myofascial Pain Syndrome - is it always chronic?

I've just been hit with myofascial Pain in my left thigh and at the bottom of my calf 2 days ago. Lots of trigger points and burning sensation. Any thoughts on if this is possibly a one off? Is it always chronic? Suggestions for healing and getting back to the gym? Time frame? Supplements?
I normally get on the treadmill to walk/run for 1/2 an hour and then the rowing machine for 1/2 an hour. Some light weight lifting at the end - 5 minutes. 3-4 times per week.

What did your doctor tell you? I would have asked them those exact questions. Especially the part about recovery and getting back to the exercise. You don’t want to make it worse.

Thank you Tiny Dancer - I've been in work yesterday and today and it will be next week before I can see someone. It's not easy to get a doctor's appointment unless it's quite urgent.1

Thank you, Greyhound. As it happens I had a repetitive strain injury of the hip in the past, so it may be referred pain from a strained Tensor Fascia Latae. That's the idea I'm working off as it sounds very much like what I'm experiencing and the hip pain is becoming more obvious. I will rest and take care going back, I'm not going to push myself anymore as it's not worth it. I'm happy enough to reach a normal level of fitness and stay there without injury.0
